You are here: Home > Things to Do > Archive Gallery at Heaton Cooper Studio
Heaton Cooper Studio, built in 1937 by watercolour artist William Heaton Cooper, houses a changing program of exhibitions in their Archive Gallery running annually from March to October. The exhibitions showcase a variety of contemporary artists and medias as well as retrospectives and anniversary exhibitions. Exhibitions at the Archive Gallery are free to enter, with work often available to purchase.
Alongside the Archive Gallery, the studio sells both prints and originals of work by the Heaton Cooper family. Many prints are available in a range of sizes and framing options, so you can pick the artwork that best suits your space. The art shop inside the studio has supplies for both beginner and professional creatives, as well as books to provide inspiration and instruction. You’ll also find a variety of stylish homeware and interesting books covering topics like art, history, nature and lifestyle.
The newest addition to Heaton Cooper Studio is Mathildes Café, opened in 2017. In Mathildes you’ll find a delicious, seasonal menu of Scandi-inspired food crafted using the best local ingredients. Open for breakfast, lunch and coffee and cake, Mathildes is the perfect place to end an afternoon of browsing artwork and discovering the legacy of the Heaton Cooper art family.
