You are here: Home > Things to Do > The Heaton Cooper Studio
Heaton Cooper Studio was built in 1937 by landscape artist William Heaton Cooper with the funds that he earned from the success of his first book, Hills of Lakeland. Since its opening in 1938, it has been one of Grasmere’s must-visit destinations.
Over 80 years later, the studio is now a thriving art gallery, showcasing the works of the Heaton Cooper family over three rooms.
There is a great selection of prints available to buy either framed, mounted or loose in the first room. The central room of the gallery holds a changing selection of original painting and sculptures that are available to purchase, and the third room contains an evolving selection of prints that either display different sides to the art of the Heaton Coopers – such as their sketches – or are in one-off framing options.
In the studio, you’ll find a well-stocked art shop selling everything you need for drawing, printing, painting and more. Whether you’re a professional artist or you’re just starting out, the art shop has the materials you need to get started on your next project. We also have a great range of stylish homeware available, and a variety of interesting books for both children and adults, covering topics like art, nature, interior design and food.
