The Vault: A Story Bank
Step into The Vault and unlock the history of Kirkby Lonsdale through this interactive, and free to enter, exhibit located in the town’s former bank vault.
Inside you will find 7 items which each link to a story from the town’s past. Choose an item, place it on the table, and then sit back and enjoy a little piece of cinema that will bring this historic market town to life.
Along the way you will meet past inhabitants of Kirkby Lonsdale and famous visitors such as J.M. Barry, who was inspired by Kirkby Lonsdale’s beauty when he wrote Peter Pan.
You will find The Vault experience inside Kirkby Lonsdale’s Information Centre & Gift Shop on the Main Street in the centre of town. Here you can also chat to local volunteers about things to see and do in the local area, as well as shop for local crafts, gifts, books and maps.
