West Pennine Angling Solutions operates as a fully qualified Angling Trust Level 2 Event Lead Coach, fully Licensed, complete with a full DBS check and insurance. If you are a complete novice or a seasoned angler looking for a days fishing in Lakeland, we can deliver. I can offer boat fishing on Lake Windermere for all of the lakes species, or river Trout fishing on the stunning River Kent. Further to this, I can also offer Pike and Perch fishing on Killington Lake.
450SF Mercury Quicksilver Aluminium lure decked boat, kitted out with Hummingbirds One-Boat Network of integrated Minn Kota bow mount and Fish Finder. Powering this is a 20hp Mercury EFI 4-stroke. The width of this boat model makes for an incredibly stable casting platform.
Pike, Perch and Trout are our target species in Lakeland. Methods and species are tailored to both conditions and time of year. Pike are targeted in the colder months utilising slow swimming soft baits through to crank baits and surface baits as the water warms. If the going is good, Pike on fly is a viable method casting with Vision Merisuola rods and Predator reels loaded with various line densities.
When the Perch are on, then all methods are covered from vertical fishing soft baits on the drift and static through to crank baits and surface fishing. Action can be fast and furious chasing these shoals over various depths, it really can become a game of cat and mouse!
For those prepared to put the hours in for one of the rarest and most special of fish then downrigging for a Ferox is an option. Whilst I cannot guarantee any fish on the day, be it pike, perch or trout, should the rod spring off the downrigger clip, carnage will ensue!
In the depths of winter, fishing deads is the method to target bigger Pike. Slow going at times, however, if you’re new to fishing deads, then a day in the boat will put you on track to be able to fish from both boat and bank. A day fishing deads will go over all aspects of this method. From location through to baits and rigs.
Changing species from Predators, Roach and Bream can be targeted both fishing feeders vertically or on the float. A real pleasurable day can be had fishing the slider or waggler whilst anchored over a nice drop off.
Whilst my passion these days is with a fly rod is “Nymph and Streamer” led, there are days when the opportunity arises to fish more traditional North Country Spiders. Spider fishing is a method that is ever so relaxing and will produce fish, as it did for the great pioneers all those years ago. Some would say that I have left the best till last… DRIES…!!! Purist I am not, however, when the fish are looking up, nothing can compare! The beauty about today’s kit is that all of the above can, at a push, be covered with a 10’ 3#.
Over the last few years, Lure fishing has grown enormously. I can take you through Ultralight and light lure fishing including BFS......What is BFS? Well, I’ll tell you… FUN. Whilst light lure fishing is nothing new in the UK, the growth of BFS – Bait Finesse System is. Ultra-short 0-5grm rods and small bait casting reels are now a regular sight on our progressive club waters. Crankbaits, spinners, spoons and mega light jigheads loaded with soffbaits are what we are casting, no more than 5grm with 2-3.5grm providing a sweet spot cast on these ultralight set-ups.
Lures again are the go to for a days ( or half day) fishing from the bank on Killington. The lake holds some superb Pike and fabulous Perch. All of the above lure techniques can be used along with some larger lures targeting Pike.
