We are delighted to invite you to this Quiet Day at Rydal Hall — a reflective and theologically rich exploration of Jesus' promise: "I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly." (John 10:10)
Set within the natural abundance of Rydal Hall — with its sweeping gardens, woodland, waterfalls and ever-changing Lakeland light — this day offers space to step away from scarcity-driven living and into the spaciousness of God's generous presence. Participants regularly speak of how deeply renewing, thoughtfully crafted, and pastorally sensitive Rev Lawrence Basham's Quiet Days are, and this day promises that same depth of preparation, attentiveness, and spiritual nourishment.
About the Day:
The day will explore two contrasting stories that shape our lives:
• The scarcity story: "There isn't enough. I am not enough."
• The abundance story: "God is with us. There is enough. We can live freely."
Through Scripture, silence, guided reflection, and the beauty of the Hall's grounds, we will uncover what it means to live from God's abundance — not sentimentally, but truthfully and courageously.
What to Expect
• Opening worship rooted in Psalm 23: "I shall not want."
• Three reflections on abundance in creation, in Jesus' ministry, and in God's future.
• Opportunities for journaling, prayer, and silent meditation.
• Outdoor practices designed to help you notice the gifts already surrounding you — light, water, stillness, creation's generosity.
• A closing act of thanksgiving as we return to the world as people grounded in God's plenty.
Themes We Will Explore
• Abundance as God's posture toward us.
• Scarcity as a story of fear that distorts our imagination.
• Jesus' miracles not as displays of excess, but of relationship, trust, and participation.
• What it means to embody abundance in community, hospitality, forgiveness, and daily life.
• How God's future — a banquet without price — shapes our present.
A Day for the Soul
