Fans and critics alike acknowledge that 48 years on the Nightingales are better than ever. They continue to release exciting, singular records – including new flexi 45 "Hand Me My Backside" – but the real depth and true worth of the group is found in their exceptional live performances.
Now, the trusted, long standing, quartet have been joined by super viola player Natalie Mason and the Fab Five will be on tour in 2027, presenting a new selection of songs from their most recent recordings and wonderful, extensive back catalogue.
Due to illness and other assorted dollops of bad fortune the group has not been ultra-active on stage for the last couple of years but are now revved up, unabashed and brimful of vigor for 2027.
As witnessed in Stewart Lee's hit documentary film "King Rocker" this band is authentically independent, mightily resilient and a genuine breath of fresh air in the current climate of stupid, stifling and soft rock n roll.
Giants among dwarves.
Support comes from Thomas Truax. Truax crafts rich, poetically evocative songs about insects, trees, technology, and a lifelong obsession with things lunar, including various reasons 'Why Dogs Howl at The Moon'. Notable supporters and collaborators include Jarvis Cocker, Duke Special, Richard Hawley, James Smith of Yard Act, Bob Log III, the Dresden Dolls and the late author Terry Pratchett. His latest album 'Dream Catching Songs' featuring drummer Budgie of the Slits, Siouxsie & The Banshees et al. was released in 2023.
