About

With modern furnishings and fresh décor, whilst carefully retaining the charm and character of this historic house, Askham Hall is somewhere you can kick off your wellies at the front door and relax in down to earth, comfortable surroundings.

The emphasis is on the food and our Michelin-starred/4 AA Rosette restaurant Allium offers an imaginative and creative dining style, using produce locally sourced from the 800 year old Lowther Estate. We offer a 6-course tasting menu (please see website for details and pricing). The cycle of life in the gardens and fields dictate our menus - we work with the seasons to grow, source and preserve the produce from our surrounding farms and woodland.

Furthermore there are 19 bedrooms to choose from initially, each is totally unique and individually named. Room rates start at £180 per night including breakfast. A Scandinavan sauna, outdoor heated pool and hot tub are available to guests from April to October, as well as access to Askham’s ‘Health Barn’ all year round.

The Grade II listed gardens are full of stunning features, including colourful terraces, a 230ft long double herbaceous border, unusual species of plants, formal lawns, kitchen gardens, woodland, meadows and ponds. Take in the views down to the River Lowther and enjoy the secluded spots of the garden.

The gardens are now open to hotel, restaurant and wedding guests only.

A stunning wedding and party barn is also available.

Sister establishment of the George and Dragon, Clifton, repeated winners of the Cumbria Tourism Taste Awards.

  • Six course Michelin Star Tasting Menu

A Six Course Tasting Menu of Seasonal Delights in our restaurant 'Allium at Askham Hall.' The cycle of life in the gardens and fields at Askham Hall dictates our menus.

Chef Richard Swale grew up locally and has a deep understanding of the seasons, wild foods and produce that grows here from his childhood spent out shooting in the woods, fishing on the river Eden and looking after his own rare breed chickens which he is bringing to Askham Hall. Richard has now been head chef at Askham Hall for 5 years and was recently awarded with his first Michelin Star for Allium.
