From 24 October 2025 to 28 February 2026 (excluding Christmas and New Year), guests booking a minimum two-night bed and breakfast stay at Askham Hall will be loaned a special stargazing hamper, at no extra charge.
Each hamper includes:
It launches alongside the Cumbria Dark Sky Festival (21 October to 21 November), a three-week celebration offering star talks, night walks, and family events across the county. But at Askham Hall, we will keep the spirit alive all winter, giving guests the chance to scan the night sky for meteor showers, the Milky Way and constellations like Orion’s Belt until the end of February.
With its dramatic fells, wild moorlands, and wide-open commons, Cumbria offers some of the UK’s darkest skies. Among the many breathtaking local spots where the heavens unfold in dazzling clarity on a clear night are the bottom lawn of Askham Hall itself. A ten minute drive away from all three properties is Helton Fell – complete with parking and amazing views – while just slightly further afield is the tranquility of Haweswater, the most easterly lake in the Lake District.
