You are here: Home > Things to Do > The Rheged Centre
Housed in a building of architectural merit, Rheged is home to 10 individual shops selling artisan food, outdoor clothing, women’s clothes from brands such as seasalt, joules and noa noa, children’s toys, shoes and clothes, bath/body products, books and beautiful designed products from craftmakers and artists. Rheged is a good place to start exploring the area with its 4 Cumbria information stations specialising in outdoors, food, families and culture. Rheged also has the largest 3D cinema around, an art gallery with changing art, craft and photography exhibitions, 3 cafes featuring local produce including lamb and beef from our farm, indoor and outdoor play, pottery painting and a full programme of exciting children’s events every school holiday - all under one grass covered roof.
Cinema
Our cinema isn't like your average multiplex - hidden away in our centre is one massive screen the size of 6 double deckers! 4 amazing documentary films are shown at various times throughout the day and Saturdays there's a Kids Film Club. Escape into a world of entertainment at Rheged Centre’s 2 screen, independent cinema. Experience the latest releases, classic films, children’s films and world-class live streamed events in our GIANT 60ft cinema screen and second standard sized screen.
Rheged Café
From breakfast to pre-theatre menus, with plenty of cake in between, the Rheged Café specialises in simple but imaginative dishes inspired by our favourite Cumbrian produce. Our own beef and lamb takes pride of place on the menu alongside Lancashire cheese, west coast fish and bread from Staveley’s artisan bakery More? – their sourdough toast is just the job with our bestselling Cumbrian breakfast. Our children’s menu is also based on these fine, fresh ingredients, and our child-friendly dishes mean we see a lot of clean plates.
Toyshop
Our toy shop is packed almost to the rafters with children’s books, clothes, footwear, toys and gifts. Children can find new titles by their favourite authors, or discover retellings of classic fairytales. Our vibrant range of children’s clothing is from brands including Joules, Frugi and Vans, with local designers represented by Blade & Rose and Lakes and Lambs.
Our toys come in all shapes and sizes, from bright handmade cloth toys to wooden playsets from Le Toy Van and Djeco, as well as contemporary characters and novelties that often reflect our summer family exhibition. We stock a huge selection of LEGO® which features Friends, Ninjago, Nexo Knights and Star Wars (including the Millennium Falcon), and a full range of Minifigures. And with stickers, puzzles, face paints, outdoor adventure packs and even Micro scooters, we’ve got every child (and every weather forecast) covered.
Clothing and Beauty
Our lifestyle shop represents the best of grown-up living, including stylish womenswear and accessories, exceptional beauty products, and contemporary interior accessories. Our clothing edit takes in relaxed ranges from Seasalt and White Stuff alongside gorgeous texture and shapes from Charli, Noa Noa and Sandwich. We also have scarves, jewellery and footwear, including Aigle wellies.
Our beauty and skincare selection is unique in the area, chosen to complement our spa treatments and highlight the best in natural and high-performance products. Our brands include REN, This Works, Trilogy, L’Occitane, Dr Hauschka and Alpha H, with makeup from Stila and Korres. We also stock handmade products from local companies Bath House and Sedbergh Soap. Our interior and textile ranges are based on simple design, hand crafts and fun, tactile details, and we also have gifts made in Cumbria, alongside a variety of stationery, cards and wrap and colourful paper.
Rheged Gallery
In our spacious Gallery on the top floor, we host a changing programme of five exhibitions every year which have a connection with our Cumbria home. Some exhibitions break the bounds of the Gallery and take over the centre, so you may find art in unexpected places. Each exhibition is curated with a leading cultural organisation or a creative community around us. We are proud to exhibit work by Cumbria’s world class artists and craftspeople, often see here for the first time. This strong relationship with artists means we can show creativity at its most diverse, as well as reflecting life in the landscape.
Taste Foodhall
Rheged runs on good food. As family farmers, we wouldn’t have it any other way. Our fresh counter displays handmade pies, Scotch eggs and excellent local cheese – just ask if you’d like to taste – and we have a table laden with everyday and unusual breads freshly baked in Staveley. On the foodhall shelves, you’ll find carefully chosen ingredients from local producers and an extensive selection of niche beers, wines and spirits, along with handmade ceramics and kitchenware.
Taste Cafe
Our food hall is also home to an open café kitchen, and a team of cooks who have the knack of knowing just what our visitors want to eat. They’re inspired by shelves groaning with the best food and drink our buyers can find, so Taste Café vegetable curries are cooked with Mr Vikki’s Keswick Market sauce, cheeses and patés come from the deli counter, and sandwiches are made with our favourite More? artisan bread.
There is a disabled car park next to main visitor entrance.
* Open all year, daily 10.00-17.30 except Christmas, Boxing and New Years day.
