Nestled in the beautiful Grisedale Valley, Elm How is a traditional Lake District farmhouse made for escaping into the fells. Sitting right on the Coast to Coast route, it’s a dream base for walkers, with Patterdale, Helvellyn, Catstycam and Fairfield all close by.
Arrive to the sound of the babbling beck and views towards the mountains, then settle into this characterful cottage, full of original features and cosy corners. There’s plenty of room for family and friends, and up to two well-behaved dogs are very welcome too.
The heart of the house is a generous dining kitchen, well equipped with an electric range cooker, double fridge and freezer, microwave and dishwasher. In the sitting room, an original stone fireplace surrounds the wood-burning stove, while a separate snug provides a cosy spot for reading, relaxing or keeping the children entertained. The utility room has plenty of space for muddy boots and outdoor kit, along with a sink and washer/dryer.
A stone spiral staircase leads upstairs to four comfortable bedrooms – two doubles and two twins. One double has its own en-suite shower room, while a separate family bathroom has a bath, shower and basin, with a separate WC.
Underfloor heating and a water-source heat pump keep Elm How warm and welcoming, with plenty of hot water for everyone. A basket of logs is waiting for your arrival, with more available from the adjoining log store.
And if you need a little more space, neighbouring Cruck Barn sleeps two and can be booked alongside Elm How – perfect for bringing an extra couple of friends or family.
