27 reviewsWelcome to The Queen's Head, a unique and delightful 17th-century village pub nestled in the heart of Askham, a picturesque village in the Lake District. As part of the esteemed Askham Collection, our pub offers a cosy and inviting atmosphere, along with well-appointed bedrooms that provide the perfect base for exploring the surrounding beauty of the region. With our recent AA accreditation as a 4-star gold inn and an AA Rosette restaurant, we are committed to offering a truly memorable experience.
The Queen's Head benefits from its prime location, allowing guests to immerse themselves in the natural wonders of the Lake District. Take invigorating walks in the local fells or enjoy a leisurely stroll along the nearby River Lowther, accessible right from the pub's doorstep. During your stay, make sure to explore the gardens at Askham Hall, where much of the produce used in the pub's dishes is grown and reared. In the summer months, you can even take a refreshing dip in the outdoor pool*.
If you're seeking a truly indulgent experience, take advantage of our exclusive short break package. Immerse yourself in the charm of The Queen's Head for two nights, enjoying delectable food in our pub on the first evening. On the second evening, venture to our nearby sister property, Askham Hall, and relish a six-course Michelin-star tasting menu at Allium restaurant, with optional paired wines.
No nonsense, hearty, healthy food:
Renovated to the renowned Askham Hall standard by the Lowther family, the Queen's Head prides itself on serving delicious seasonal pub food. Their menu showcases produce that is reared, foraged, and grown on their very own farms, hedgerows, and kitchen gardens. Under the guidance of Head Chef Anthony Amos, who honed his skills at the nearby Michelin-starred Allium at Askham Hall, the pub offers refined, creative, and modern dishes while maintaining the warm and inviting ambiance of a classic Lake District inn.
Please note, our new opening hours are 3pm until 9pm on Thursdays and Fridays, and noon until 9pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
Until the end of March, while we develop our brand new menu for Spring, we’ll offer drinks and bar snacks only.
We’ll be redesigning our kitchen to accommodate a new wood-fired pizza oven which we’re hoping will be ready in perfect time for Easter when we’Il launch our new menu, which will include delicious wood fired pizzas, salads, cured meats, cheeses and puddings
Bed and breakfast is currently available from Thursday to Sunday.
