There is a packed calendar of events in Cumbria’s city, Carlisle. From major horseracing events and concerts at the racecourse to the very best theatre shows.
Carlisle is an artistic hub for creatives. The city plays host to a fringe festival with dozens of events throughout the city. The nationally renowned literary festival attracts internationally recognised authors and poets for book signings, readings and Q&A sessions.
The city is awash with rainbow colours during the annual LGBTQ+ Pride Festival which is followed by a live concert in the courtyard of the 800-year-old Carlisle Castle.
Speaking of outdoor concerts, Bitts Park in the centre of the city, plays host to some of the biggest names in music for huge outdoor gigs. Little Mix, Jess Glynn and Sir Tom Jones have all played in the electric atmosphere.
There are gigs indoors too! Big name touring artists regularly visit the city alongside some of the finest names in comedy too.
There is a vibrant bar scene in the area with live music bursting out of every doorway.
If you enjoy live theatre book yourself into a show. Experience an original production or choose from one of the many touring shows that call into Carlisle.
The spectacular Cathedral in the heart of the city plays host to events throughout the year. Most notably the festival of light where this magnificent building is transformed into a colour palette of light installations.
Carlisle knows how to put on a show. The annual fireworks display with the backdrop of Carlisle Castle is something you must experience, not forgetting the extravaganza for turning on the Christmas lights, where the city is transformed into a winter wonderland with lights, live music, interactive theatre and even a big wheel in the city centre.
You could always catch a film during your visit too. A latest release or arthouse classic – the choice is yours.
There is so much entertainment in Carlisle. Make sure you plan your trip in advance, so you don’t miss anything!
