As well as an abundance of natural beauty, the Western Lake District and Coast boasts plenty of events to enjoy too, with a packed calendar all year round.
The historic Muncaster Castle holds various festivals throughout the year, including the popular Suasage Festival and a spooky Halloween event!
For live music, check out the annual Solfest music festival at Tarnside, near to Silloth on the beautiful Cumbrian Coast. Discover an eclectic mix of music and arts at this family festival, which boasts fantastic performances, a vibrant atmosphere, and a stunning location. There's also Cockermouth Live, which brings live entertainment to this pretty market town.
Want to sample some local produce? Taste Cumbria hosts a number of food festivals across the region, showcasing some of the best culinary produce that Cumbria has to offer plus a chance to meet the makers. With events in Maryport, Wigton and Cockermouth (as well as nearby Carlisle), there's lots to enjoy - including a Christmas event.
Possibly the best known and longest running event in the area is the Egremont Crab Fair and World Gurning Championships. Established in 1267, it’s one of the oldest fairs in the world. Check out local food and craft producers, watch traditional local sports, and, of course, The World Gurning Championships - an ancient Cumbrian tradition and quite a skill!
To search all events happening around the whole of the county, check out our What's On page, complete with a handy events calendar.
You may leave the Lake District, but once you’ve been, it’ll never leave you.
