Travel times to The Lake District, Cumbria by trainThe way we get around is changing. As we become more environmentally conscious and look to reduce our carbon footprint, alternatives to the trusty motor car become the way to travel.

Thankfully in the Lake District, Cumbria you don’t need a car to explore. You can reach us by train.

Oxenholme – The Lake District, Penrith - The North Lakes and Carlisle railway stations are located on the main west coast main line between London and Scotland (Just over 2 hours from each).

Northern Trains operates direct train services to Windermere and right the way round Morecambe Bay and the stunning Cumbrian Coastline, as well as along one of England’s most scenic lines, the Settle and Carlisle Railway

Cumbria is also the home of the line widely regarded as England’s most scenic; the Settle and Carlisle Railway. Check out some of the great ways in which you can travel to the Lake District, Cumbria sustainably and then explore the area with our new 'Rail Trails' - fabulous walks that all start and finish at a railway station.
