About

Wddding Ceremonies and Receptions at Muncaster Castle

Steeped in history and set against the breathtaking views that are showcased in the Western Lake District, Muncaster Castle is an idyllic venue perfect for your special occasion whether it is an intimate family gathering or a lavish celebration totally your choice for your day.

Spoilt for choice we have five breathtaking rooms for ceremonies and/or celebrations.

Great Hall

Our most dramatic room with wood panelled walls and dating from the medieval era has a huge working log fireplace and is at the heart of  Muncaster Castle allowing you and your guests to really enjoy the full Muncaster experience.

The Great Hall and Front Lawn are perfect for drinks after the wedding breakfast.

The Drawing Room

With a unique, ornate, barrell-vaulted Italian plaster ceiling and with south facing tall windows overlooking the formal front Castle lawns this, our largest room offering is pure elegance, entwined with history and tradition including the family portraits from the 16th Century to the present day who will overlook your celebrations along with the huge centerpiece of the marble fireplace adding in that extra grandiose.

The Formal Dining Room

Wonderfully traditional, offering original and opulent wall coverings and boasting a large bay window with the full vista of the gardens and the valley below reaching up to the mountains in the distance beneath Scafell Pike, this room can host a more intimate ceremony. Standing proudly in the center is the great, ornate walnut dining table capable of seating up to 30 in considerable style.

The Billiard Room

Bathed in light from its leaded bay window overlooking the lawns with its full wood panelled walls offers a smaller option – sometimes known as the ‘Family Dining Room’ this room has a special place within the Castle as the family still entertain and use this room for formal occasions.

The Guard Room

This room offers an intimate and romantic atmosphere, with a beautiful barrel-vaulted ceiling, Elizabethan fireplace and oak panelling gives another option for a unique ceremony.

The refurbished Old Laundry located a short distance from the castle is available for evening party.

We recommend visitors with disabilities contact us before their arrival for advice.
Dogs are welcome on site but can't enter the castle or Owl Centre.
