Experience something truly unique. Join us on a tranquil night-time canoe paddle on Coniston Water and enjoy the beauty and vastness of the night sky in the heart of the Lake District.
You will start the guided canoe tour in the day-light, giving you time to get to grips with paddling the canoe, but also to allow you to explore the hidden coves and remote islands you can’t get to by foot. We will find a secluded bay where we will light a small fire and enjoy hot soup and crumpets toasted over the fire and watch as the sun sets over the magnificent mountain scenery.
Once the sun has set and the stars have joined us, we will continue our canoe journey stopping along the way to look up and marvel at the stars, identify some constellations and see the beauty of the Milky Way.
80% of UK residences live under light polluted skies and can only see about 30 stars in the night sky. Coniston Water has some of the darkest sky in England. Cumbria is listed in the top 5% of the darkest areas in the whole of Britain. On a clear night we are lucky enough to be able to see thousands of stars, constellations and the Milky Way just with the naked eye, making Coniston one of the best venues in England for star gazing.
Our canoes are designed to fit two adults and a child or even a dog! If you have a number of small children, or you’re not too confident on water - not to worry - we can join two canoes together to make a super stable and easy to paddle canoe raft. Fun for all the family.
