About

About Holker Hall

Fascinating historic house where the elegance and loveliness of the Victorian era combine with the warmth and welcome of a much loved family home. The hall is set in 25 acres of romantic formal & woodland gardens and ancient parkland, with the famous herd of Menil fallow deer, showcasing nature at its most graceful. Holker offers beautiful landscaped grounds, a small playground & picnic area. The Gift shop offers a selection of items for home and garden, while the Courtyard Cafe offers delicious homemade food, cakes and daily specials. Holker also hosts an inspirational programme of special events throughout the year, guaranteed to appeal to all ages and interests.

Special rates for groups of 10 or more. Free entry for organiser and driver. Free parking. Personal welcome.

Dogs are welcome in the Gardens, parkland, café and outside areas, as long as they are kept on a short lead.  Dogs are not permitted in the Hall, except Assistance Dogs.

There is a water tap and water bowls provided in the Cafe Courtyard.

The Gardens at Holker Hall

The gardens surrounding Holker Hall cover 24 acres of woodland and formal garden areas. They are highly acclaimed and were winners of a 2004 Cumbria In Bloom award. They offer a richness and variety particular to this special micro-climate of the South Lakes. Throughout the year the gardens are a riot of colour and texture. Bespoke garden tours can be arranged upon request and can be tailored to suit the varied interests of the visitor. The 17thC Great Holker Lime is one of the highlights, measuring 7'6" at its widest and has the distinction of being one of Britain's 50 greatest trees. Another rare treat is the blooming of the national collection of styracaceae, not forgetting the rhododendrons in the months of April and May and the colours of Autumn. The gardens will thrill and excite even the most discerning. Look out for our land art feature "Pagan Grove", the peaceful Sunken Garden, and the wonderful labyrinth.

The Courtyard Cafe offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere and specialises in local and seasonal food. Our head chef offers a superb range of daily specials and a mouth-watering range of cakes and tray bakes. Why not treat yourself and book yourself in for one of our afternoon teas and indulge in our homemade scones and other delights. Please note this does require pre-booking.

The Ilex Brasserie

The Ilex is our stunning function space, perfect for any occasion whether it be a birthday party, baby shower or even your wedding! Contact the team via info@holker.co.uk to find out how we can make your event even more memorable!

A Day’s Walk Lakeland Food Hall

A Day’s Walk is an online shopping and daily (well 6 days a week, we all need a day off!) delivery service with one massively important difference. Every item we stock comes from a local farmer, grower, producer or business within A Day’s Walk of the heart of the Lake District. So its fresh, clocks up next to no food miles, is often made in small batches or is seasonal - and crucially it’s some of the finest food and drink in the land. Every time you shop with us you enjoy a unique taste of the Lakes and experience a special connection with this beautiful place, its people and its traditions.

A Day’s Walk opened up the Lakeland Food Hall in June 2021 where you can browse a selection of the very best Lakeland produce for real! We're open Wednesday to Sundays, 10:30am to 5pm or you can browse on line at adayswalk.co.uk

Lakeland is our Larder. Make it yours too.

Gift Shop

Full of ideas and inspiration with handpicked gifts, homeware, and plants, you are sure to find that little something to treat yourself or a thoughtful gift for a friend or relative.

We aim to support local businesses, and for visitors to get the feel of our surrounding areas with unusual and personalised gifts related to the Lake District.

We also have Holker merchandise available.  If History and country heritage is your passion we have the Holker Guide book with lots of information dating back to 1600s, as well as other Holker keepsakes.
