Anyone Can is an adventure for all company – we welcome those with additional needs. We have a wide range of adaptive and inclusive equipment to make adventure possible for all our clients.
Travelling by canoe is fantastic for many people who want to adventure who have some additional needs.
We specialise in including everyone and have a variety of ways to get you on the water confidently. Young or old, confident or terrified we can get you on the water on your terms.
Why Canoeing is super inclusive
Canoeing is a seated activity, and we have a range of supportive seating to help. You can board the canoes on dryland before being slid onto the water, which makes it easy for users of mobility aids, wheelchair users and those not confident clambering around docks. Canoeing is also a 2 or 3 person-per-boat activity, so if anyone struggles with stamina, vision or understanding, there are others in the boat sharing the task.
We have rudder steering on some of our boats so anyone with the use of one hand and arm can contribute by steering. We can add our wing floats to many of our boats to make them nearly impossible to capsize.
We have a large wheelchair access (and float onboard) support boat called 'Freedom". Freedom allows us to take one-way journeys, whisk you back to use the accessible toilets or give you somewhere to rest. Freedom gives you the confidence of knowing that if you somehow ended up in the water, there is an easy way to get back (our water ramp).
We sell whole day activities, so there is no rush, we can take the time people need to get comfortable and set up just right and make any changes required during the day.
We have access to BSL instructors and have a basic level of Makaton.
We are aware and responsive to the needs of people with learning difficulties and Autism. We can arrange quiet time sessions, sessions with a breakaway instructor, visual timetables etc.
