Food Events

Cumbria is fast becoming the foodie capital of the north, with an array of Michelin starred restaurants; fantastic country pubs; cosy cafes; and a huge amount of culinary talent. Supporting this is the wide variety of food and drink events taking place throughout the year, from food festivals to farmer’s markets.

There are plenty of local delicacies to discover on your visit to the Lake District, Cumbria. This is the home of the Cumberland sausage, as well as Grasmere Gingerbread®, Cartmel Sticky Toffee Pudding, and Kendal Mintcake to name just a few. Our local markets are the perfect opportunity to sample our locally made food and drink, and there’s always one to visit somewhere across the region!

Taste Cumbria hosts a packed calendar of foodie events throughout the year, while there are also county shows at which to discover local produce and meet the makers. Keep an eye out for when these take place – they’re quite the experience!

For something a little different, why not discover a quirky event like the Dalemain Marmalade Festival; or compete to see who can eat the hottest chilli at Holker Hall & Gardens?

Our restaurants, pubs and cafes offer seasonal menus and often hold special events to celebrate occasions like the Christmas season, with limited edition Afternoon Teas and celebratory lunches alongside their regular menus. Fancy sightseeing while you enjoy some local grub? Some of our fantastic attractions host food themed events – how about fish and chips as you sail across Ullswater?
