HAWKSHEAD PARISH CHURCH
MUSIC FOR A SUMMER EVENING 2026
All concerts start at 7.30 pm
Tues. 2nd June: James Williams, oboe and cor anglais; Kate Halsall, piano.
James and Kate perform music from Baroque to the present day, including pieces by
Elizabeth-Claude Jacquet de la Guerre, Saint Saens, Schumann, Germaine
Tailleferre, Amy Beach and Arvo Part.
Tues. 9th June: Burneside Brass Band
This nationally graded 4th section brass band is based in the village of Burneside, just
outside Kendal. Under their Musical Director, Dave Higson, the band plays at
various indoor and outdoor events and will provide a programme to suit all tastes.
This will be the third visit to Hawkshead of this popular band.
Tues. 16th June:John Turner, recorder; Richard simpson, oboe; Helen Simpson, piano
Music by Telemann and Poulenc and more modern composers including Geordie
Tunes by Peter Hope and featuring "Hill Top" (Homage to Beatrix Potter) by Helen
Leach.
Tues. 23rd June: Northern Light
A four piece band consisting of lead vocals, acoustic/electric guitar, backing vocals/
percussion, bass guitar and drums.
They perform popular, easy-listening ballads and up tempo songs from the 1950s to
more recent times, covering various artists and genres from musicals to pop, soul,
folk, country, blues, motown and soft rock. Something for everyone!
Tues. 30th June: The Autumn String Quartet
Programme:
Haydn.. Quartet in C major op. 20 No.2
Janacek..Quartet No.1 The Kreutzer Sonata
Beethoven.. Quartet in F Minor op. 95
Sat. 4th July: The Manchester Chorale
A mixed choir of 40+ voices (SATB) with a wide ranging repertoire.
They last performed here in 2024 and we will again be treated to a varied programme
of music.
Tues. 7th July: Suzanne Walker, soprano; Tim Tozer, piano accompaniment
A journey through repertoire for voice and piano, including English Song, French
Chanson and German Lieder, with a sprinkling of opera arias to finish.
Tues. 14th July: Paul Gregson: Organ Extravaganza!
Our local church organist returns by popular demand to treat us to a light
programme of music with which the audience will be familiar, rather than the more
classical organ repertoire.
Tues. 21st July: The Harps North West Ensemble
….. a harmony of harpists ( eight in all) with an eclectic selection of music for a
summer's evening …..
Their programme will include folk music from the UK and across the world, film
scores, classical pieces and tunes written especially for the Ensemble.
Tues. 28th July: William Jones-Barnes, piano and trumpet; Ian Honeyman, piano accompaniment
William is a young musician from Barrow, performing a wide range of classical and
modern pieces for piano and for trumpet.
Tonight his piano pieces will be by Bach, Beethoven and Debussy.
On the trumpet he will be playing more modern pieces, including "Virtuosity" by
Kenny Baker.
Concerts are free but we welcome donations in support of our chosen charities.
