Tucked away on a quiet, single-track road near a working farm, Cruck Barn is a cosy countryside bolthole just under two miles from the village of Patterdale and the shores of Ullswater. Reached along a gated lane, it feels wonderfully peaceful and secluded, with beautiful views along the valley and some of the Lake District’s best walking right from the doorstep.
The barn sits alongside its larger neighbour, Elm How, and is ideally placed for exploring the fells, with footpaths leading towards Helvellyn and Fairfield nearby. Whether you’re here for long days on the hills or simply want to slow down and enjoy the peace and quiet, it makes a lovely base for a Lake District escape.
Inside, the open-plan living space is warm and comfortable, with a cosy sitting and dining area tucked under the old barn eaves. The well-equipped kitchen has everything you need for a relaxing stay, including an electric cooker, microwave, fridge -freezer, dishwasher and washer/dryer.
The spacious double bedroom looks out along the valley, while the bathroom has a feature stone wall, bath with shower, heated towel rail and all the essentials.
Cruck Barn is dog-friendly, so four-legged walking companions are very welcome. Cots and highchairs are also available on request.
Travelling with family or friends? Elm How sleeps eight and can be booked alongside Cruck Barn, making the two cottages a great option for larger groups.
