About

Nestled among the rolling foothills of the North Pennines, Farlam Hall graces its surroundings with a quiet simplicity and understated elegance. Once a manorial home dating back to the 15th century, Farlam Hall has been reimagined as a luxurious retreat where guests can enjoy the secluded location and relaxed environment. A place to breathe and unwind.

Farlam Hall has recently gone through a complete refurbishment, transforming into a luxurious yet delightfully uncomplicated country house for guests to switch off and relax – where the welcomes are warm and the smiles genuine. A proud member of Pride of Britain and Relais & Chateaux, Farlam Hall offers effortless luxury in the secluded Cumbrian countryside.

Limestone walls mark the sweeping, tree-lined driveway past the ornamental lake and fountain, where guests are greeted by the Grade II listed house nestled within manicured gardens.

The 13 bespoke guest rooms are spacious and beautifully appointed, each offering the finest comforts, individually selected furniture and luxury bathrooms replete with sustainable toiletries.  Soft, simple, muted tones are paired with original art by local artists on every wall, creating the overall feel of comfort and ease.

The Sycamore Retreat treatment room allows guests a serene environment in which to unwind, promoting mindfulness, relaxation and rejuvenation with holistic skincare treatments.  A cosy consultation room adjacent to the treatment area offers a calming space before and after their treatments.

A short stroll from the main house are six luxurious Stable Suites. Originally the estate’s coach house and stables, they have been thoughtfully and carefully transformed into charming, generously proportioned accommodations, sleeping two to eight guests, perfect for those seeking a romantic get-away, or for long awaited family get-togethers.

Dining at Farlam Hall’s Michelin star restaurant, The Cedar Tree by Hrishikesh Desai, is an indulgent experience, with high ceilings and full-height windows offering stunning views over the lake and rolling farmland beyond. A curated menu showcasing local ingredients, many grown within Farlam Hall’s own walled kitchen garden, serves up beautifully balanced sweet and savoury delights. Cocktails, local ales and wines are served in the stylish bar, which also extends to an outside terrace for warmer days. Available to book Wednesdays to Saturday evenings.

Alternatively, Bistro Enkel has been designed to offer a more casual dining experience with uncomplicated yet flavourful classic dishes using the freshest local and regional ingredients. Available Sunday to Tuesday evenings, we recommend you book in advance to avoid disappointment.

In the tranquil grounds, Farlam Hall’s bees work hard spinning pollen into golden honey which is used in some of the restaurant’s signature dishes. Sunday lunches are an easy affair offering the best in locally-sourced produce from neighbouring farms, while Afternoon Tea is regal and traditional, served in the elegant dining room or, weather permitting, on the terrace overlooking the grounds.

Pet-friendly Farlam Hall is ideally located to explore the area with four-legged friends, sitting in the heart of Cumbria, encompassing the north Pennines, large parts of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, Hadrian’s Wall World Heritage Site and three Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Easily accessible and located just 12 miles from the richly storied city of Carlisle and less than 15 minutes’ drive from the M6, Cumbria’s wealth of history, habitats and wildlife are just waiting to be found. From mountains to coastline, to wetlands, rivers, lakes and woodlands, this is an area for walking, cycling and discovery, with Britain’s rich history and heritage right on the doorstep.
