Local, seasonal produce is a key feature; while the wine list has plenty of vegan options. Upstairs, a studio cinema shows art-house and independent films; a movie meal deal is available for anyone wishing to combine the two.
Upfront Gallery and Vegetarian Restaurant
In a charming rural location not far from Penrith, you’ll find the Upfront Gallery, Puppet Theatre, Music Venue and Vegetarian Cafe: a fantastic destination for arts, culture and delicious food and drink! The theatre hosts productions to delight all ages, while the gallery features exhibitions by local, national and international artists. The on site cafe is fully vegetarian, with delicious home cooked breakfasts and lunches, alongside delicious cakes and hot drinks. The grounds are home to the Lingholm Estate, where Beatrix Potter herself spent ten summer holidays between 1885 - 1907. A traditional tearoom in the heart of bustling Ulverston, Gillam’s is a local institution - the family’s history in the town dates back to 1892. Gillam’s Tearoom itself was opened in 2006, in a beautifully restored 18th century building. Visit for speciality coffee, quality loose leaf teas, and traditional tea room delights. Cakes are baked on site using organic ingredients, and plenty of vegan options are available. The terraced garden is perfect for warm summer days.
A relaxed atmosphere awaits at this laid-back restaurant serving up pan-Asian dishes inspired by countries along the spice trail, and including a nod to Cumbria’s history as a vital part of the spice trade. Watch the chefs at work in the open kitchen, and enjoy tapas style dining in the heart of the lakes.
