South Lakes Safari Zoo:

Found in Dalton-in-Furness, LA12 0LU, this wonderful Safari Zoo will provide you with a family day out you will never forget! With the opportunity to hand feed giraffes, lemurs, penguins and much more this is a fabulous summer day out. Home to over 1,000 of the rarest and most endangered animals my little ones are always in awe when we visit. They also offer some fantastic family events – the Dino Days are a particular highlight. Brockhole:

My children and I adore it here, we visit at least a few times a year and each time we have even more fun than the last time! There is always a huge array of activities to enjoy, from Treetop Nets and GoApe to bike hire and mini golf, all ages are catered for! Here at The Hiking Household we love a day out that involves the great outdoors, the trails at Brockhole are fantastic and we can often be found paddling by the shore line. With so much to do here this is a fantastic full family day out.

Lowther castle & Gardens

Lowther Castle & Gardens:

This is a truly fantastic family day out! We have had so many brilliant days out here as a family. The Hiking Household love the vast amount of space the children have to play and explore at Lowther Castle & Gardens. We have a different day out each time we visit. We have had family games of cricket, picnics, hide and seek, tree climbing and all sorts of adventures as a family here, not to forget the epic outdoor adventure playground found in the Lost Castle. Hours of fun for children of all ages, and adults too!

🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞

Ullswater ‘Steamers’:

Ullswater Steamers create the perfect opportunity to combine a lake cruise with some of the most famous and spectacular walks in the Lake District around the Ullswater Way. The Hiking Household LOVE exploring the Ullswater Way and you can find many wonderful family friendly walks in Ullswater over on our website. Click here to view our map and search for your favourite walk today. Why not team a walk around Ullswater Way with a trip on the Ullswater Steamers? My children love nothing more than a boat ride to entertain their walk!

Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway

Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway:

For anyone who follows The Hiking Household’s activities on social media you will know that we are huge fans of the Ravenglass railway! Please click here to be directed to a review of our fabulous Ravenglass day out – families you will not be disappointed with this narrow gauge steam engine situated at the foot of some of England’s largest mountains.

🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞

The World of Beatrix Potter:

My children adore this attraction, they couldn’t believe their luck when I told them we were able to visit again this summer. Plus, this summer there is a celebratory Happy Birthday Peter Rabbit theatre show at The Old Laundry Theatre, across the road from the World of Beatrix Potter. Held to celebrate the 120th birthday of Peter Rabbit, the show is on daily except Mondays, until 4th September. Keep your eyes peeled on The Hiking Household’s social media pages to see how we get on when we visit here later this summer – we have four very excited children!

Lake District Coast Aquarium

Lake District Coast Aquarium in Maryport:

Save the best till last!? This is one of my children’s favourite days out. With fish displays, a SeaLab, Mini Golf and an outdoor adventure playground there is something for everyone to enjoy. You can read all about our most recent trip to Maryport Aquarium here. Fun for the whole family!

Top tip: Why not team your day out with a trip to the Senhouse Roman Museum?
