What's On in Morecambe Bay

There is always plenty to do in Morecambe Bay, whatever time of year you choose to visit. You have the scenery to take in, the family attractions to visit and the fascinating history to explore. Plus, there is always a packed calendar of events. In fact, so numerous are the events in the area, the historic market town of Ulverston is known as the festival town.

A great one to catch is the Ulverston Dickensian Festival in the run up to Christmas. See the cobbled streets transformed into a magical Dickensian Christmas market with stalls, entertainment and a festive parade around the town.

The annual Cumbria Steam Gathering in the summer is a local tradition. Experience the sights, sounds and smells of beautifully presented vintage steam vehicles.

Chilli Fest at Holker Hall is not for the faint hearted. Specialist chilli companies from all over the country and expert local producers provide entertainment, cookery demonstrations and the famous chilli eating competition.

The Lakes International Comic Art Festival celebrates the amazing world of comic artists, creators and writers, the biggest names in comic art all flock to Kendal.

Another hugely popular event is the Kendal Mountain Festival in November. Outdoor enthusiasts from across the globe head to Kendal to celebrate the world of adventure with stories, talks and films.

In Barrow-in-Furness, the popular Soapbox Challenge transforms the town centre into a racetrack as teams compete with their own designed soapbox to be crowned the fastest.

There are numerous, traditional agricultural shows throughout the area. A chance to sample local products, meet the producers and see traditional sports. The largest is the Westmorland County Show which regularly attracts celebrity chefs and even royalty.

For a full list of events around the whole county, view our full calendar of events.

Watching the sun go down over Morecambe Bay is the stuff memories are made of
