Towns and Villages around the Western Lakes

From picturesque villages to ancient seaports, the towns and villages of the Western Lake District and Coast offer a rich history and heritage alongside plenty to see and do. Here, you’ll find handsome Georgian streets, bustling market towns, and a warm Cumbrian welcome - with a healthy dose of historic charm to boot.

From the birthplace of Wordsworth in Cockermouth to the only coastal village in the Lake District in Ravenglass, there’s lots to discover.

There is gorge scrambling, there is canyoning, then there is The Esk Gorge. A mega place with massive jumps into crystal clear waters. The pools are deep and big offering lots of swimming and scrambling along the rocky edges too.

South Walney isolated position on the southern tip of Walney Island makes it a special place for wildlife and people. It is a haven for bird life, many of which nest on the shingle beaches in the spring. No dogs allowed because of risk to wildlife.
