About

Carlisle Brewing Co is a small, family-run brewery based in Cumbria's capital city. We make beer because we simply love it - real ale is awesome! We've spent more years than we care to remember drinking real ale of all styles and flavours. This culminated in us buying our own pub, The Spinners Arms in Cummersdale, Carlisle in 2007 - where we naturally continued our research! In 2013, we took it a step further and set up a 2.5 barrel microbrewery on site. We outgrew it quite quickly and moved to our current premises on a local industrial estate in 2015.

We brew a variety of beers from our best-selling Cumbrian Bitter and Spun Gold to our IPA, Cushty Peeve (local term for Great Drink!) through to our lovely soft, dark Oatmeal Stout. We source the best quality ingredients we can using reputable British firms. The malt we use comes solely from traditional floor maltsters in Warminster for example.

Carlisle has a huge history of brewing. It's not very well known that the pubs and breweries in the area were under Government control from 1916-1973, our own pub was designed and built for the 'Carlisle Experiment'  and we are so proud to be part of that, bringing brewing back to the city after a gap of 27 years.

Our cask beers can be found in various pubs throughout Cumbria and the Borders, and our bottles are available in a number of farm shops, hotels and restaurants (as well as online). You can even find our beer in Carlisle Cathedral!
