We’re F.W. Tyson, a family-run business right in the heart of Ambleside, now proudly in its 5th generation. Since 1887, we’ve been helping people find the perfect country-style and mountain footwear. From walking shoes to hiking boots for both men and women, we’re all about offering high-quality products with friendly, first-class service—just like we’ve done for over 130 years.

We’re proud to be the original Mephisto shop in England, being the very first importer in the country. Our journey with Mephisto began in Switzerland, where we fell in love with the brand. With advice from friends in the mountain villages of Grindelwald and Wengen, we quickly recognised the quality and performance that set Mephisto apart. Today, we offer one of the largest collections of both Mephisto walking shoes and sandals in the UK.

We also stock top-quality mountain boots from some of Europe’s best brands, including MEINDL, LOWA, NOKIAN, GRI-SPORT, and ZAMBERLAN. Whether you're a casual walker or a serious hiker, you can count on us to help you find the perfect fit—backed by generations of expertise!
