Set in the east of the Lake District High Street is blessed with superb views of Longsleddale, Kentmere and Haweswater. The easiest climbs to the summit are from Hartsop and Haweswater.It is sometimes known as Racecourse Hill because of the 19th century practice of conducting sports days at the summit which included horse racing.
There are the remains of a Roman road at the top of the High Street.
