The annual Keswick Film Festival is Cumbria’s premiere cinematic event. In 2025 we celebrated our 25th Anniversary having been founded in 2000 by Keswick Film Club, a not – for - profit charity. The Festival is run entirely by volunteers, dedicated to creating a friendly and vibrant event and the bringing the best of international and independent cinema from across the world.
Our Festival is for everyone who shares our love of cinema and the beautiful setting of the Lake District.
We have an excellent track record of creating a programme of exceptional and diverse films including award winners and hidden gems. We are often ahead of the game selecting and screening future Oscar winners.
There are edge of the seat thrillers and dramas; powerful and inspirational documentaries; laugh out loud comedies and fun and heart - warming films for the whole family. And of course, we have the weird and wonderful for those that like something different!
We are also true to our Cumbrian roots and promote local filmmaking talent through our prestigious Osprey Short Film Awards and our partnerships with local organisations such as Sustainable Keswick and Carlisle College film study students.
We also have interactive events including guests presenting personal experiences and reflections about their films.
Screenings take place at the historic and magnificent Keswick Alhambra Cinema, the atmospheric setting of the Theatre by the Lake and the vibrant Rheged Centre near Penrith.
We are committed to encouraging all in the local community and beyond to enjoy the Festival experience and each year we offer concessionary rates for young people and families.
