Road Directions
From the North (M6 / Penrith): Exit the M6 motorway at Junction 40. Take the A66 westbound towards Keswick. At the first roundabout, take the second exit onto the A592, signposted for Ullswater. Follow the scenic A592 lakeside road all the way down the western shore of the lake, driving through Pooley Bridge and past Aira Force. Continue straight into the heart of Glenridding village.
From the South (Windermere / Ambleside): Take the A592 northbound from Windermere. Follow it up and over the dramatic Kirkstone Pass. Descend into the valley, passing through Patterdale. Shortly after entering Glenridding, you will arrive at the main visitor hub on your right.Parking & ArrivalThe workshop and hire collection point are situated directly inside the Glenridding Tourist Information Centre building. Main pay-and-display public parking is available adjacent to the centre
Public Transport Directions
Getting to Ullswater eBikes by public transport is straightforward, as the Ullswater valley is widely considered the most accessible lake area by rail and bus in the Lake District National Park.
Step 1: Travel by Train Your primary rail gateway is Penrith (North Lakes) Railway Station.
The station sits directly on the West Coast Main Line, served frequently by Avanti West Coast and TransPennine Express. It takes roughly 3 hours direct from London Euston, 1 hour 50 minutes from Manchester Airport, and 3 hours from Edinburgh or Glasgow.
Step 2: Take the Bus to Glenridding. Once you arrive at Penrith Station, you can easily transfer to a local bus right outside the main entrance.The Stagecoach 508 Route: This is the primary year-round service connecting Penrith directly to the Ullswater Valley. Step onto the bus at Penrith Station, and it will take you on a scenic 40-minute journey along the lake, passing Pooley Bridge and Aira Force.
Connecting from the South: If you are coming from the southern Lake District, the Stagecoach 508 Bus also runs northbound from Windermere Railway Station over the Kirkstone Pass directly into Glenridding.
Alternative Summer Services: If you are visiting during the peak season (Easter to late autumn), you can also look out for the seasonal 509 service or the community-led Ullswater Hopper Bus (UB1), which link Keswick and various accommodation sites around the valley straight to Glenridding.
Step 3: Arriving at the Hub You will want to get off the bus at the Glenridding Bus Shelter stop.
From the stop, it is just a short, minute-long walk into the main car park to reach The Hub at the Ullswater Tourist Information Centre, where the Ullswater eBikes workshop is based
