If you're travelling by car from the south, take the M6 to junction 36, then follow the A590, which becomes the A591, towards Windermere. Continue on the A591 to Keswick. If you're travelling from the north, exit the M6 at junction 40 (Penrith), then take the A66 west towards Keswick. From Keswick, follow signs for the B5289 towards Buttermere. Pass through the village of Braithwaite, and continue along the B5289 until you reach Buttermere. Hassness House is located on the shores of Buttermere Lake, just a short drive beyond the village. Hassness House offers on-site parking for guests.
If you're travelling by public transport, the nearest train station is in Penrith, which is on the West Coast Main Line. From Penrith, you can take a bus or taxi to Keswick. From Keswick, take the Stagecoach Bus 77/77A, which operates a circular route around the Lake District, including Buttermere. This bus runs seasonally, so check the timetable in advance.
