About

For visitors to Cumbria who want to escape to a lesser-known, but no-less beautiful area of the county, West Point House on Walney Island is the perfect solution.

Stretching along the Furness Peninsula’s south west coast, Walney’s West Point House provides visitors with perfect access to part of Morecambe Bay’s historic coastline, while only being a 30 minute journey by road or rail to the border of the Lake District – UNESCO World Heritage site.

Ideal for families or groups who want to relax and explore in equal measure – without breaking the bank, the accommodation is just a seven minute walk from Earnse Bay – widely regarded as one of the finest beaches in Cumbria.

After a day of beach-combing and exploring the rock pools, a peaceful retreat awaits guests returning to West Point House – where the modern, spacious bedrooms, living spaces and kitchen are all designed for you.

With 36 bedrooms – including standard and en-suite, each comes with a 4 foot double bed.

Think of West Point House as a self-catering hotel, ensuring your food is served just how you like it. The large kitchen means no waiting, with guests able to make use of two ovens, three hobs, three microwaves, toasters… in fact, everything you need to cook your favourite meals at what can literally be described as a home away from home.

Even better, three dishwashers are installed for quick, easy cleaning up afterwards; and our friendly and helpful morning staff means West Point House remains a clean, tidy and welcoming environment.
The lounge, complete with large windows for plenty of natural light and high ceilings, is complete with a 65” TV – including Sky and sports packages, and of course – Netflix.

Children are welcome – and parents can rest easy as they play outside in the walled garden. Also great for dogs, the sun-trap also offers plenty of opportunities for adventures and even a spot of den-building…
Beyond the boundaries of West Point, Walney’s two nature reserves are the home of an abundance of wildlife including seals – which you may have even seen on TV’s Countryfile.

There’s plenty more to explore from the door too, with the 12th century Furness Abbey, Piel Island (complete with seasonal access by a small ferry), great cycling routes including The Bay Cycleway – and the Dock Museum, which celebrates the area’s world famous shipbuilding heritage.

Slightly further afield – but still only a matter of minutes, visit the improved South Lakes Safari Zoo in the neighbouring town of Dalton, or check out the stunning coast road on the way to Stan Laurel’s birthplace, Ulverston – taking in Birkrigg Common along the way. Boasting stunning views across Morecambe Bay, described by travel writer Bill Bryson as one of the most beautiful places on earth.

And finally – how can we forget… Barrow offers a variety of shops – from high street names to quirky independents., including the Last Resort Café (featured in JK Rowling’s Career of Evil book) Upon your return to West Point House – there’s free parking on-site, along with reliable, superfast WIFI so you can tell your friends all about the great time you’re having.
We hope to welcome you soon!
