Pure Lakes Natural Skincare

"Pure Lakes skincare products are just what they say - pure, lovely to use and smell divine." Carole W. June 2020

This recent review says it all. Everything is handmade in the Pure Lakes workshop in the Lake District. All products are free from synthetic perfume, parabens or SLS and not tested on animals. Pure Lakes uses only the finest plant-based ingredients with a focus on sustainability which means all packaging is environmentally friendly.

Essential oils have therapeutic qualities, thus, the Black Pepper & Ginger in the Muscle & Joint Balm were chosen for their anti-inflammatory properties and the Rose in the Rose & Frankincense Facial Hydration Cream as an oil perfect for mature skin.

At the start of lockdown Pure Lakes developed a new 65% alcohol hand sanitiser, made with Aloe Vera, Glycerin and with their signature Grapefuit & Lemongrass essential oil blend. It is already one of their best sellers.

Pure Lakes - A Family-Run Business

Owners Claire & Gareth Mc Keever and their young family live in Far Sawrey, on the Hawkshead side of Windermere, and Claire and her team make everything by hand in their Staveley workshop.

Claire says, 'My family have lived in the Lake District for generations and it is a privilege to be able to both live here and work here, not least making natural skincare, something I am passionate about.' Find out more here.

Pure Lakes' Claire McKeever

Natural Ingredients That Work

Claire often gets asked which Pure Lakes product is her favourite, but actually, in her words, "a better question would be which of the ingredients are my favourite."

Here are a few:

Rosehip Seed Oil - is a wonder ingredient for facial skincare containing a type of Vitamin A said to be nature's copy of Retinol, known for its anti-ageing properties, helping to protect the skin from free radicals and to repair damaged cells.

Frankincense is thought to have cytophylactic properties, meaning that it stimulates cell regeneration leading to an anti-wrinkle effect on the skin, and is known as a natural astringent.

Hyaluronic Acid is a natural component of skin and has a unique capacity to bind and retain water molecules. It does this by acting like a sponge and attracting and binding water molecules from the air.

These amazing ingredients are used in all Pure Lakes facial gels, creams and oils, and Hyaluronic Acid is even used in the Hydrating Hand Balm.

The Hydrating Hand Balm has just been short-listed for an important Free-From Skincare award and was winner in the 2019 Beauty Short-List Awards.

Getting Skin Summer Ready

At the Pure Lakes workshop there have been frequent requests for recommendations for skincare products that would be good for getting back to some form of normal.

Claire says, "Our products are formulated for specific types of skin and everyone's skin is very different. There really is no one size fits all."

"We have four cleansers and would recommend the Soap-Free for dry skin and the Foaming for combination to oily skin."

"For a moisturiser our lightest cream is the Geranium, Lavender & Ylang Ylang. For oily skin either of our gels is perfect and for dry skin, the Rose or Neroli Hydration Creams."

"A myth about oils is that they are only for very dry skin. In fact, our night oils are wonderful for all skin types. Use a very small amount last thing at night and I think you will notice a difference."
