Towns and Villages around the Western Lakes

From picturesque villages to ancient seaports, the towns and villages of the Western Lake District and Coast offer a rich history and heritage alongside plenty to see and do. Here, you’ll find handsome Georgian streets, bustling market towns, and a warm Cumbrian welcome - with a healthy dose of historic charm to boot.

From the birthplace of Wordsworth in Cockermouth to the only coastal village in the Lake District in Ravenglass, there’s lots to discover.

Travel by train along the Cumbrian Coast Line, which connects a number of the area’s towns and villages by rail. Running alongside the sea, it boasts stunning views as you travel.

Explore the following towns and villages: Buttermere | Cleator Moor | Cockermouth | Duddon Valley | Maryport | Millom | Ravenglass, Muncaster & Eskdale | Silloth | Whitehaven | Workington
