Discover the allure of Venue Hire at Carlisle Cathedral, an exceptional choice for those seeking a unique and historic setting in the heart of Carlisle. The Cathedral precinct presents a range of iconic spaces that can be exclusively hired to make your event truly remarkable. For a truly unique and historic venue hire experience in Carlisle, explore the remarkable spaces of Carlisle Cathedral. Whether it's a grand event, an intimate gathering, or a momentous ceremony, our spaces are ready to create enduring memories.

Fratry Hall (capacity 120): With a history spanning over 600 years, the 14th century Fratry Hall stands as a captivating jewel within the Cathedral precinct. Once serving as an abbey's dining hall, grain store, prison, Civil War armoury, and brewery, it now houses Bishop Thomas Smith's splendid library. Its wooden vaulted ceiling and stone fireplace create an awe-inspiring ambiance, making it the ideal space for grand events. Hosting concerts, talks, exhibitions, and more, the Fratry Hall accommodates up to 120 guests, providing a versatile canvas for dinners, ceremonies, teas, and launches.

Fratry Undercroft (capacity 60): Uncover the hidden gem beneath the Fratry Hall – the Undercroft. This medieval space has been gracefully refurbished with a modern touch, showcasing a magnificent stone-ribbed ceiling. An intimate venue with a capacity of up to 60, the Undercroft suits gatherings, concerts, and exhibitions, serving as a standalone space or a complementary breakout area for events in the Fratry Hall.

Prior's Room (capacity 16): Experience the unique atmosphere of the early 16th century Prior's Room, an exceptional meeting space featuring a rare painted ceiling, stone fireplace, and Cathedral views. Accommodating up to 16 attendees, this private room offers a distinct setting for memorable meetings. The adjacent ground floor of the Prior's Tower presents an additional breakout space or waiting area.

Cathedral Café (capacity 80): Embrace modern elegance at the pavilion café, a recent addition to the Cathedral precinct. Designed by award-winning architects Feilden Fowles, this space overlooks the Cathedral and offers access to outdoor seating. With a capacity of up to 80 guests, the café is perfect for statement events and private functions, available for hire outside of café opening hours or as part of a package with the Fratry Hall.

The Cathedral (capacity 600): Unveil grandeur with events held against the backdrop of the majestic East Window and iconic starlight ceiling. Hosting up to 600 guests, the Cathedral transforms gatherings, concerts, services, and celebrations into unforgettable memories.

Baptisms, Weddings, and Funerals: Embrace life's significant milestones at the Cathedral. While these ceremonies generally take place in local churches, the Cathedral offers a special place for those with strong ties to the community. Special licenses are available, and inquiries can be directed to the Cathedral Office.

Catering: Elevate your event with exceptional catering provided by our in-house team. From breakfast meetings to lavish buffets, our offerings are tailored to your preferences. Our licensed bar boasts an array of beverages, from local ales to Champagne, adding a touch of luxury to your gathering.
