About

We offer Gorge Walking (also known as Ghyll Scrambling) for young explorers. An adventure aimed specifically for families with children. If your kids love splashing about in water or you want them to build water confidence then this is the activity for you. Wetsuit up and scramble your way up a mountain stream. Climbing, splashing, jumping and laughing all the way. Ages 5+

The ghylls we choose for families are easily accessible. There are always options to avoid the deeper pools and obstacles if needed. Our expert instructors will offer a variety of challenges that both kids and adults will love. We have fantastic family Gorge Scrambling in Langdale, Coniston and Wasdale.

Gorge Walking (Ghyll Scrambling) - Coniston

A very aquatic and popular gorge scramble with all ages. This hidden gem is situated a very short walk from the village of Coniston. Within these steep gorge walls, you will take the plunge into crystal-clear pools and scramble your way up rocky waterfalls. This ghyll has it all!! Deep pools, jumps, scrambles, climbs and slides. We offer this ghyll to different age ranges but cover a similar section of the ghyll. The session will be tailored to the ages and pace of the group. Please book the appropriate session by the age of your youngest child.

Sessions Available:
• Young Families Session - Aged 5+ upwards
• Age 8+ upwards
• Age 14+ upwards
• Allow 3 hours

Gorge Walking (Ghyll Scrambling) – Langdale

Situated in the heart of The Lake District National Park is Stickle Ghyll. A very picturesque ghyll that winds its way up the mountainside towards Stickle Tarn providing stunning views along the way. This scramble also has an optional big roped climb right up the middle of a 12m waterfall. A fantastic venue in high water or winter months when all the other ghylls can become inaccessible. Great during lower levels for those with little legs or who want to stay a little drier.

Sessions Available:
• Young Families Session - Aged 5+ upwards
• Age 8+ upwards
• Allow 3 hours

Gorge Walking (Ghyll Scrambling) – Wasdale

Tucked away in remote Wasdale, surrounded by some of England’s most spectacular mountains and vistas, there lies this fabulous Gorge Scramble. Make your way up this fun hidden canyon, swim, climb and jump through the crystal-clear water along the way. Complete with a hidden cave and a small roped climb up a waterfall to finish. This ghyll will delight all!

Age 8+ upwards

Allow 3.5 hours

What we provide:

We provide the best kit and equipment. Our full length, winter-thickness wetsuits and snug-neoprene socks are always clean, dry and fitted correctly.

Our expert guides know the ghyll's intimately and will tailor the day to your group offering up loads of fun challenges along the way. All the challenges are optional.
