About

**KIDS GO FREE ON MINE TOURS

The slate mine tours at Honister Slate Mine offer an exciting experience suitable for all ages come rain or shine.

Set in a picturesque part of the Lake District at the top of Honister Pass, visitors can adventure deep into the belly of Fleetwith Pike and explore the mine with a guided tour through underground tunnels and caverns.

You’ll learn all about the history of the mine and its workers and the production process of Westmorland Green Slate, a natural rock material that has been mined and used for centuries and is an important part of the Lake District’s heritage.

After the tour, visitors can visit the slate gift shop, which is filled with beautiful and unique items made from the slate that was mined there. There’s also a Café serving a delicious selection of food and drinks, making it the perfect place to refuel after a morning of exploring.

The tours run daily at 10:30, 12:30 and 2:30 and take approximately 90 minutes. Some uneven terrain is involved, plus descending approximately 50 steps (with a handrail) as well as illuminations and a mock explosion.

In addition to the mine tour, Honister Slate Mine offers a great range of adventure activities, from the UK’s original Via Ferrata and Climb the mine, to high-wire bridges and scenic hikes, there's something for every age and ability.

So, whether you're a local or a visitor to the Lake District, Honister Slate Mine is a must-visit destination that offers a unique and unforgettable experience.

**KIDS GO FREE ON ALL MINE TOURS: For a limited time only, get one free child (3-16 years) ticket per full paying adult on all mine tours.
