Adventure deep into the mine through our underground tunnels and caverns and have a day you’ll never forget.

Our historic slate mine tour allows you to go deep underground! Experiencing 450 million years of history!

One of the highlights of your visit to Honister Slate Mine will be our fully-guided underground tour!

Learning about Honister’s rich mining history! Deep within our underground tunnels and caverns. In the belly of Fleetwith Pike, experiencing what life was like for the miners through the ages, listen to 8-year-old John Taylor and learn how Slate mining at Honister progressed through his lifetime.

The slate mine has 350 years + of history which gives you a wealth of knowledge to be had visiting our historic mines.

An all weather experience and suitable for families of all ages!

Mine tours take approximately 90 minutes, involve uneven terrain plus descending approximately 50 steps (with a handrail)

Please note the tour includes illuminations and a mock explosion.

* On bank hols open from 09.00. Phone during winter months. During Christmas holidays please phone as we do open.
