About

We are a membership organisation which offers guided adventurous expeditions on foot, by canoe and by bike. We also train people to undertake expeditions. We run expeditions across the UK, but mostly in the wilder corners of Great Britain. All expeditions are led by highly experienced, qualified and insured instructors.

Wilderness Camping Training

Learn the skills to wild camp - packing, site choice, hygiene and all the skills you need to survive and thrive in the wilderness. You will be supported in developing your skills by a professional wild camping expert, the course will involve a mixture of indoor, group and experiential learning including a supported night out wild camping in the high fells.

Canoe Training

For those adventurers who want to gain confidence to paddle and explore UK still waters independently and safely, this tutored course will give you the knowledge and skills to plan, prepare and be in the wilderness with confidence and safety. We will cover all aspects of planning routes, equipment choice, packing, navigating, travelling efficiently and with regard to the environment. All you need to know!

Mountain Training

For those adventurers who want to gain confidence to explore and navigate in the hills independently and safely, this tutored course will give you the knowledge and skills to plan, prepare and be in the wilderness with confidence and safety. We will cover all aspects of planning routes, equipment choice, packing, navigating, travelling efficiently and with regard to the environment. All you need to know!

We will begin the course at the youth hostel, but will spend the short night out in the fells on one of the long summer days.

Introduction to Mountain Flora

This tutored course is designed for those who want to be able to identify flowers of the British mountains and understand them in context. The course will cover the ecology of the plants including geology and soils rather than simply identifying individual plants. We will also consider ethno-biology of some of the plants.
Part I will cover different ecological contexts of plants in the Lake District from sea level to mountain tops.

Shinrin-Yoku (Forest Bathing)

We will journey through woodland experiencing the natural world in a slow meditative way, seeking connection with the wild through all our senses. Each meditative journey will last around 3hrs. Routes will be chosen depending on the precise nature of the journey, the group’s needs, and the season.
