About

Low Wood Watersports Centre, with it's large lake frontage and extensive range of up-to-date equipment, is a great location for waterskiing, wakeboarding, sailing, kayaking/canoeing and boat hire. We offer excellent facilities, including ample free parking; changing rooms and showers and refreshments. All this set in one of the country's most stunning locations, against an inspiring backdrop of Lakeland Fells.

Water-Skiing

Being towed behind a powerboat whilst strapped to a pair of skis sounds like madness, but this exhilarating sport must be experienced to be believed.

Our instructors can take you from being a complete beginner to being towed behind the boat in a shorter time than you might expect.

Using well established training techniques, MasterCraft ski boats and modern water skis, wakeboards and kneeboards let us take you to the water for the time of your life.

Wayfarer Sailing

Just you – the wind – the boat – and a beautiful lake. If you can sail you know the joy, if you can’t then why not learn.

Low Wood Bay Watersports Centre offers both sailing instruction and a range of sailing boats for hire, including

- The Varianta 18. This is a sporty 18 foot daysailer built by well-known German boat builder Hanse. (In order to hire any of our keelboats you need to be able to sail to the standard of the RYA National Sailing Scheme Level 2 award or the RYA Day Skipper practical award.)

- The Laser Bahia, a fun and easy boat to sail. It is a 15 foot double-handed simple dinghy with an aluminium mast and boom. This boat is ideal as a trainer boat for beginner and intermediate sailors. (In order to hire the Laser Bahia you need to be able to sail to the standard of the RYA National Sailing Scheme Level 2 award.)

- The Laser Pico, a fun small dinghy, ideal for single-handed sailing or for a parent and child.(In order to hire the Laser Pico you need to be able to sail to the standard of the RYA National Sailing Scheme Level 2 award.)

- The Laser One, a classic Olympic-class single-handed racing boat, fast and challenging. (In order to hire the Laser One you need to be able to sail to the standard of the RYA National Sailing Scheme Seamanship Skills award.)

Motor Boat Hire

Our motor boat and rowing boat hire allow you to explore Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake at your own pace.

Experience the breathtaking views only available from being out on the water. Public jetties along the eastern shore allow you to get off the boat and explore the lakeside towns, or stop off for lunch.

Our motorboats have a 6hp outboard engine and controlled by a steering wheel, which can take up to six people.

Fishing Boat Hire

Our fishing boats have the same 6hp outboard engine as our motorboats, They are ideal for your fishing trip. Hire one for two hours or more and we will also provide a set of oars so you can get closer to the shore, an anchor and a fishing guide to Windermere.

Also available - pedalo hire between 1st April and 31st October, 7 days a week.

Kayaking & Canoeing Tuition

Canoeing and kayaking are two of the most thrilling things to do in the Lake District. With the beautiful Lake Windermere right on our doorstep, it’s a unique way to enjoy the outdoors whilst experiencing an exciting sport.

Canoes and kayaks are versatile and agile craft, with a real go-anywhere ability. We have a range of modern craft at the centre, with closed-cockpit and sit-on-top kayaks, and open canoes.

Whether you’re a total beginner or looking to improve your skills, canoeing or kayaking in Windermere is a new way to experience the lake.

All of our canoe and kayak tuition is on a private instruction basis, so can be booked at a time to suit you and tailored to meet your requirements.

The instruction is normally carried out in our up-to-date fleet of Pyranha Master TG closed-cockpit kayaks or Venture Canoes Ranger 16 open canoes, or in your own boat if required.

If you’re new to watersports in the Lake District, this is the perfect chance to try!

Kayak Chaos

A 50 minute fun filled group session for all the family, minimum 3 people, £25 per person, including all equipment. Selected times between May and September.

Sit-on-Top Kayak Hire

Sit-on-top kayaks are easy to paddle and incredibly stable; and if you do manage to capsize it, you just fall off – so no worries about getting trapped in the boat.

Price includes buoyancy aids. Wetsuits can be hired for £4 and wet shoes for £1 for the duration of the session.

There is no minimum age to hire the boat, however there must be someone at least 18 years old on the water to supervise.

Open Canoe Hire

Traditional canoeing in Windermere is a relaxing experience that you can enjoy in a pair or a trio. Though you will need a it of teamwork and co-ordination!

Changing rooms and showers are available.
