About

Whinlatter Forest is home to the longest purpose-built mountain bike trail in the Lake District. The Altura Trail puts the mountain back into biking and has been built for experienced riders with good off-road skills and a higher level of fitness and stamina.

The trail is a 19km red grade mountain bike route with challenging single-track sections, berms, jumps, rock features, skinnies, cork screws and tabletops. Riders can also enjoy fantastic view of Derwentwater, Bassenthwaite, Helvellyn and Skiddaw as the trail climbs to an altitude of 500m above Keswick.

Also available to try is the blue-graded Quercus Trail, up to 7.5km of flowing single track and the 10km Gorse Trail along forest fire roads. Purchase a trail map from the visitor centre or download  HERE

Bikes and e-bikes are available to hire or buy from Cyclewise, next to the visitor centre, who also offer a range of skills and bike maintenance courses.
