Askham Hall, Askham, Penrith CA10 2PF
Askham Hall is situated in the stunning Eden Valley. This historic stately home and gardens is home to the Michelin Star restaurant Allium, with Cumbrian born Head Chef Richard Swale.
The Michelin guide says:
"Locally born chef Richard Swale oversees the kitchen, offering a concise menu with two choices at each course. These accomplished dishes are driven by the seasons and the availability of produce from the Lowther Estate, in which the building sits. The gardener plays an important part in guiding the menu, advising which ingredients are at their peak and what to plant next, and this produce is joined by estate livestock, game and trout from the streams. Sauces are a highlight and really elevate each dish."

The South Cumbrian village of Cartmel is home to two Michelin starred restaurants, both under the umbrella of renowned chef Simon Rogan. Rogan and Co is a laid-back venue in an attractive cottage next to a stream.
The Michelin Guide says:
“Simon Rogan’s influence is clear to see on the appealing menu, which lists skilfully prepared, understated dishes which make great use of creative ingredient and flavour combinations. His clean, uncomplicated approach keeps the focus firmly on each main ingredient, with exceptional produce coming from his own farm in the Cartmel Valley or carefully sourced from trusted Lake District suppliers.”

Cavendish St, Cartmel, Grange-over-Sands LA11 6QA
L’Enclume has firmly established the charming village of Cartmel on the foodie map. Simon Rogan’s Michelin starred menu is based on seasonal produce and flavours all sourced from the restaurant’s own 12 acre farm. In 2022, L'Enclume earned its third Michelin star - making it the only 3 Michelin starred restaurant outside of London and the South East.
The Michelin Guide says:
“Few restaurants represent the region in which they’re located more than L’Enclume and the Lake District. The cooking in this lovely old smithy has never stopped evolving and the energy emanating from the kitchen is as palpable as ever. Classic dishes have been reworked and refined, while stunning new dishes have slotted seamlessly into the set menu. Simon Rogan may have interests in other parts of the world, but his passion for his first restaurant remains undimmed – as does his commitment to Cartmel and his nearby 12-acre farm which produces so much of the superb produce that clearly inspires the kitchen. ”

Church St, Ambleside LA22 0BU
The Old Stamp House in Ambleside has a wonderful history. It is the former workplace of William Wordsworth, who used to work as the Distributor of Stamps – hence the name. Cumbrian dishes are the speciality from the Cumbrian chef Ryan Blackburn.
The Michelin Guide says:
“It's owned by the Blackburn brothers – Ryan heads up the kitchen, while Craig looks after the service – and they have a passion for all things regional, which is summed up in the name of their tasting menu: ‘A Journey Around Cumbria’. The skilfully prepared dishes have been well-thought-through and carefully balance bold and delicate flavours; each has a story – sometimes historic, sometimes personal – and often a sustainable element too. The Herdwick hogget is not to be missed!”
