Sometimes it’s hard to find a holiday that will make everyone in the family happy. In the Lake District, Cumbria, the hard part is finding the time to do everything the region has to offer everyone – from 8 to 80. For the kids, the whole region is an adventure playground: whether it’s exploring forests, rowing across a lake like a Viking or building sandcastles, fun is never far away.
Sit back and relax as your youngsters develop an appreciation for the great outdoors. From wild swimming to mountain biking, human bowling to assault courses high up in the trees, climbing your first mountain or following a forest trail, there’s nothing quite like the sight of children enjoying what Cumbria has to offer. Famous for its abundance of wildlife, birdwatchers won’t be disappointed – with our feathered-friends thriving both inland and along more than 100 miles of coastline. Our stunning natural environment also means animals like squirrels, badgers and rabbits are a regular sight when all is still and silent. With an almost unparalleled choice of activities that are fun for the whole family, the Lake District is the perfect place to keep the whole family occupied.
The Lake District, Cumbria is the perfect place to be for a family adventure. Take the clan to one of our fantastic forests and experience everything from a family cycle ride, a bracing walk or zip around on a Segway. You could even explore the tree -tops with an enduring climb or feel the exhilaration of flying over the trees on a zip wire.
We also proudly boast bags of all-weather attractions here in The Lake District, Cumbria. There is always something to do to entertain the kids including lake cruises, steam train rides, theatre shows, independent cinemas and when the sun shines a Wainwright walk or a splash in one of our many lakes and tarns. Or just relax and take in the view with a family picnic on the lake shore.
Make your holiday educational and visit the homes of literary legends such as William Wordsworth and Peter Rabbit author Beatrix Potter. Create your own swallows and amazons on the lake shore or learn about the history of the historic vessels that sail on the lake.
There are enchanting castles, and stately homes, some of them are even said to be haunted. Cumbria has some of the darkest skies in the country, so after nightfall explore the heavens and amaze at the millions of stars overhead.
The Lake District, Cumbria is the place to be for festivals and events. From live concerts in the park to mountain festivals, music festivals of every genre you can think of plus street carnivals and traditional country shows. If you are feeling adventurous there are many endurance challenges from lake swims, to fell runs, extreme cycle rides and triathalons. There really is something for everyone.
Whether its little ones, teenagers, parents or grandparents you will always find something to entertain all the family in the Lake District, Cumbria.
