There’s no shortage of things to do in Carlisle and the surrounding areas, with something to suit every taste.

Carlisle has witnessed centuries of history, and today there are lots of ways to learn more with museums, galleries and historic landmarks like Carlisle Cathedral and Carlisle Castle welcoming visitors. Nearby, the iconic Hadrian’s Wall - today a UNESCO World Heritage Site - is dotted with the fascinating remains of Roman turrets, towns and forts. Musems tell its amazing story, and allow you to see the remaining Roman artefacts up close. It's also a popular walking and cycling route, with plenty of places to rest and revive along the way.
As well as a rich history, Carlisle is blessed with some fantastic city centre parks bursting with greenery – perfect for a stroll, a picnic or a kickaround with the kids. The peaceful Talkin Tarn Country Park can be found just outside the city, as well as a whole host of attractions for all ages to enjoy. Want to get back to nature?
